This website is a great resource to utilise to engage and enhance students learning within the mathematics classroom. The website focuses on mathematics stage 4 'fractions, decimals and percentages'. The aim of this website it to clarify students understanding of the three topics with the use of interactive activities. Each topic and provided resources can be used as the focus of the lesson, however, this is not recommended. In order to implement this resource effectively the resource it to be used as an 'add on' to support and develop learners knowledge.
Fractions The fractions page involves various learning platforms to build on students skills whilst learning about mathematical content. For students to get the most out of this page they are to complete activities in sequential order. The video evokes prior knowledge from stage 3 content which will enhance their learning experience when interacting with both activities. The chosen activity follows on from what they learnt from the video, hence, assessing and building on their knowledge independently. The use of Kahoot draws together their ICT experience by assessing students through a quiz in an engaging manner.
Decimals The two activities are designed to develop students deeper understanding on their prior knowledge as well as content learnt during class time before undertaking the activities. Both activities maximise students learning as it provokes higher order thinking, thus, learners engaged in an enriched task. Through the video and interactive online game students are able to apply their knowledge to create two worded problems. Activity 2 is an assessment for learning task, as students understanding on the topic can be assessed with the questions created.
Percentages
The percentage page is strategically designed to build on learners knowledge about percentages and real world applications. Think - pair - share provokes students prior knowledge and enhances their critical thinking through class discussion. Following this discussion is a video about the topic which will deepen their understanding which will assist them in both activities. The percentage page is not only designed to deliver content and test their understanding through activity 2 but to also refine their skills in communicating and co-operating with peers.
